Princeton takes the field Friday, Oct. 16, one win away from clinching at least a share of the Greater Miami Conference football title.
The unbeaten Vikings (8-0, 7-0 GMC) host Oak Hills in a Week 9 matchup that carries conference and playoff implications. A Princeton victory, or a Lakota West (7-1, 6-1) loss, would lock up no worse than a co-championship, according to the Journal-News.
That would extend a streak of GMC dominance. Princeton and Lakota West have won or shared the conference title in each of the past six seasons, according to the Dayton Daily News.
Here is what changed in the playoff picture: Princeton leads the Division I, Region 4 computer ratings, and Journal-News writer Steven Wright predicts the Vikings will finish as the region’s top seed. Oak Hills slipped from 10th to 12th following its 36-35 loss to Sycamore. Wright predicts the Highlanders will fall outside the 12-team playoff field.
The Highlanders close the regular season against Princeton and Lakota West, the conference's top two teams.
Princeton rolls past Hamilton 60-6
The Vikings routed Hamilton 60-6 in Week 8. Quarterback Key'Sean Torbert completed 10 of 13 passes for 176 yards and four touchdowns while adding a 33-yard rushing score, Cincinnati.com reported.
Princeton allows just 50.5 rushing yards per game through eight contests, according to Stateline Sports Network. Defensive lineman Terrance Jones Jr., who holds three FBS scholarship offers, has piled up 10½ tackles for loss and 6½ sacks.
Running back Jordan Hall rushed 15 times for 140 yards and four touchdowns in a Sept. 25 win over Lakota East, according to TriStateFootball. Torbert added 227 passing yards and 130 rushing yards in that 48-22 victory.
Signature wins anchor 8-0 start
Princeton opened the year by beating top-ranked Moeller, then took down No. 3 Lakota West 27-24 on Sept. 18 in a game that featured six Princeton turnovers.
"You don't have six turnovers and win a game," head coach Andre Parker told TriStateFootball after that Sept. 18 win. "You have to be a special team to do that."
What's next
A win Friday gives Princeton at least a share of its fourth consecutive GMC championship. The Vikings close the regular season hosting Fairfield on Oct. 23 before the OHSAA playoff bracket is set.
