Woodlawn and Lincoln Heights residents can get free smoke detectors installed in their homes, according to the Woodlawn Fire Department.
The department is partnering with the American Red Cross on the national Sound the Alarm program, which pairs free alarm installations with fire safety education and escape route planning.
All Woodlawn and Lincoln Heights residents are eligible. To schedule an appointment, call the Woodlawn Fire Department at 513-771-0233.
Doug Marston, who leads the Sound the Alarm program for the Red Cross's East Central Ohio Chapter, said in a February 2026 Red Cross profile that each appointment takes about 15 minutes. "There are no qualifications whatsoever for the program," he said. "We won't turn anybody down."
Doug said that when Red Cross crews check homes during canvass events, more than 60 percent lack working alarms.
Residents can reach the Woodlawn Fire Department at 513-771-0233.
