Princeton girls soccer beats Middletown 2-0, boys draw in GMC

Princeton's girls soccer team shut out Middletown 2-0 on Sept. 10 in Greater Miami Conference action.

The Vikings have won consecutive GMC matches after opening conference play with two losses. The girls' record stood at 2-4 overall and 2-2 in conference play per MaxPreps, placing them fourth in the GMC standings.

The Journal-News reported the final score in its Thursday prep roundup but did not list individual goal scorers for the Princeton match. Head coach E. Jenkins' squad is listed on MaxPreps, though no player statistics were available for the Middletown game.

The recent turnaround follows a rough start. Princeton lost to Mason 8-0 on Aug. 25, in GMC play. The Vikings then beat Seven Hills 1-0 in a non-conference match on Aug. 29, topped Colerain 3-2 on Sept. 8, and completed the stretch with the Middletown shutout.

Olivia Leung earned player-of-the-match honors earlier this season in the Vikings' Aug. 14, game, per MaxPreps.

Boys play to scoreless draw

On the boys side, Princeton and Middletown finished 0-0 in Thursday's GMC match.

It was a hard-fought point. Princeton entered the game at 1-4 overall and 0-2 in conference play, sitting 10th in the GMC standings per MaxPreps. The scoreless draw marked the Vikings' first result other than a loss in conference play this season.

Playing away from home

Both programs are playing home matches at alternate sites this fall. Princeton City Schools announced in August that the Jake Sweeney Automotive Stadium renovation pushed the facility's opening to Oct. 2. The district said alternate sites were being secured but did not specify locations.

The displaced home schedule adds a layer of difficulty for a program still building momentum in GMC play.
