Princeton's renovated Jake Sweeney Automotive Stadium won't open until Oct. 2, a full month later than Athletic Director Joe Roberts projected July 29, forcing three September varsity football home games to Roettger Stadium in Lockland.
The district announced Aug. 11 that construction delays pushed the home opener to the Homecoming game against Mason, with a 7 p.m. kickoff at Pat Mancuso Field. Roberts cited "several remaining items outside the control of the district and project team" that need more time.
The timeline shift is significant.
In a July 29 interview with WCPO 9, Roberts said the Vikings were "on schedule" to return for Week 3 on Sept. 4 against Colerain. That game and two more are now headed to Lockland.
Relocated games
All three September home dates move to Roettger Stadium in Lockland:
- Friday, Sept. 4 — vs. Colerain
- Friday, Sept. 11 — vs. Sycamore
- Friday, Sept. 18 — vs. Lakota West
Boys and girls soccer and middle school football are also displaced. The district said alternate sites are being secured but had not been confirmed as of Tuesday's announcement.
As we reported Aug. 8, the Vikings open their season Aug. 20 at Paycor Stadium against Archbishop Moeller before traveling to Middletown for Week 2.
