Springdale City Council is set to vote on the purchase of a new 100-foot aerial fire truck at its Aug. 19 meeting, a major equipment upgrade for the city's fire department.

The truck, an E-One Typhoon HP100 Aerial Platform Quint, would be financed through a tax-exempt installment purchase agreement with U.S. Bancorp Government Leasing and Finance, according to the city's meeting agenda. The ordinance, No. 40-2026, carries an emergency designation, meaning it could take effect immediately upon passage rather than waiting the standard 30-day period.

The apparatus will serve as Tower 90 in Springdale's fleet, according to Cincinnati Fire Apparatus tracking records. A quint combines five functions in one unit: a pump, water tank, hose, aerial device and ground ladders.

The price has not been disclosed.

The HP100 platform provides 100 feet of vertical reach and 91 feet, 6 inches of horizontal reach, with a water monitor capable of flowing up to 2,000 gallons per minute. Its crisscross underslung outriggers have a narrow 15-foot, 6-inch spread that fits tight spaces. The three-section aluminum aerial exceeds minimum NFPA structural safety requirements.

Springdale is not alone in upgrading its aerial capacity. Neighboring Sharonville has ordered a new E-One 78-foot aerial for Quint 88, and Woodlawn has ordered a new E-One 110-foot aerial quint, according to the same tracking records.
