A shot fired from another vehicle shattered a window on westbound I-275 near the Princeton Pike exit in Springdale early Thursday, Oct. 1.
The man suffered cuts from flying glass but was not struck by the bullet. Springdale police responded to the 42.6 mile marker around 3:30 a.m. after the victim called 911 to report he had been shot, according to WLWT. Officers found him standing outside his vehicle on the right-side berm of the interstate.
Police did not specify the severity of his injuries.
The encounter
The road rage incident began while both vehicles were traveling on I-75, Police Chief Thomas Butler told Fox 19. The confrontation continued as the vehicles moved onto I-275. During that stretch, the victim started recording the other driver after noticing what he described as "erratic driving," according to the Springdale Police Department's press release.
As the two vehicles neared the Princeton Pike exit, also marked as Ohio 747, the victim tried to pass the suspect's vehicle to reach the off-ramp. The suspect's vehicle then pulled alongside, and someone inside fired a shot into the victim's car, shattering a window.
The victim pulled onto the berm believing he had been hit. He had not been hit.
Suspect vehicle located
Using a license plate number the victim provided, investigators identified the suspect's vehicle as a 2006 Ford F-250 pickup truck. Officers later found the truck and the suspected driver at the vehicle's registered address on Grandin Avenue, police said.
Springdale police have not released the suspect's name or announced charges.
