The margin marked a significant shift from 2024, when Davidson won with 62.81% of the vote, according to Local 12. WVXU reported Davidson won 65% to Enoch's 35% in 2022, making the 2026 result a dramatic narrowing.
Davidson first entered Congress through a June 2016 special election to fill the vacancy left by former House Speaker John Boehner, according to Legis1. He served as an officer in the United States Army before entering politics and earned an MBA from the University of Notre Dame in 2005. In the current Congress, Davidson chairs the House Financial Services Subcommittee on National Security, Illicit Finance, and International Financial Institutions.
Enoch, a journalist whose work has been recognized by the Society of Professional Journalists, holds degrees from Ohio State University, Xavier University and Union Institute and University. She had the endorsement of the AFL-CIO.
Davidson's win came on a night that otherwise saw significant Democratic gains in Ohio. Democrat Amy Acton won the governor's race, the first Democrat elected to that office in 20 years, the Ohio Capital Journal reported. Democrat Sherrod Brown won the U.S. Senate race against Jon Husted, as Signal Cleveland reported. Democrats also won the secretary of state race and broke the Republican supermajority in the Ohio House, according to the Ohio Capital Journal.
The seat will next be up for election in 2028.
