The Hamilton County Sheriff's Office Traffic Safety Unit is leading the investigation into a crash that injured five people at a Metro bus stop in Springdale on Aug. 12, and no charges have been filed against the driver as of Aug. 14.

Springdale Police Chief Tom Butler told WLWT the woman driving a Hyundai northbound on Springfield Pike "failed to maintain reasonable control of her vehicle" near Northland Boulevard. The vehicle crossed left of center, left the roadway and plowed through an enclosed bus stop where five people were waiting.

Crews were dispatched at approximately 6:21 a.m., Butler told WCPO.

The Hyundai continued through the shelter before returning to the road and stopping in the left-turn lane of northbound Springfield Pike. All five victims were transported to area hospitals, including UC West Chester. Sgt. Derek Setters of the Springdale Police Department confirmed the injuries were serious but non-life-threatening, according to FOX 19 reporting on Aug. 12.

The driver was not hurt. She remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators, Butler said.

As we reported Aug. 12, the crash drew an immediate emergency response to the Springfield Pike and Northland Boulevard intersection, a transit corridor that carries Metro bus riders through Springdale during morning commute hours. The enclosed bus stop where the five victims were standing sits at the corner of that intersection.

Officials have not said what caused the driver to lose control. The Sheriff's Office Traffic Safety Unit has not announced a timeline for a charging decision or released the driver's name. No arrest has been made.
