Sharonville's Board of Zoning Appeals approved a variance allowing a nearly double-sized detached garage on Jane Court and denied a resident's appeal of a farm-animals code violation at its Aug. 12 meeting.

The garage decision ends a months-long case for Steven Ruben of 9952 Jane Court, who sought to build a 1,120-square-foot detached garage on his property. Sharonville's zoning code caps residential accessory structures at 600 square feet.

The board approved it.

The seven-member panel first heard the request June 10 but tabled it after neighbor Dennis Stallo of 9925 McCauly Woods Drive objected to any structure exceeding the maximum. Board members asked Ruben to revise his plans and add landscaping to screen the garage. The case also appeared on the July 8 agenda, according to AgendaTrace, before the board's final action Wednesday.

In the second case, the board denied an appeal of a farm-animals code violation. The appellant's name and address have not been released publicly; the city's Agenda Center shows the meeting agenda was posted Friday, Aug. 7, but official minutes had not been published as of Aug. 14.

The Wednesday session was one of the first under new Community Development Director Andy Meyer, who replaced John Creech after Creech retired in June to take a planning role in his hometown in North Carolina. City Planner Gabriel Rhoads and Administrative Specialist Kimberly Price also staff the board, which is chaired by Daniel Kloppenburg.

Vote counts for both decisions were not available without the posted minutes. Residents can contact the Community Development Department at 513-563-0033, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., with questions about pending variances.

The BZA's next meeting is Sept. 9, at 6:30 p.m. in Council Chambers at 10900 Reading Road.
