Baker Construction Enterprises plans to move its headquarters and 216 employees to Sharonville. The city council took up an Enterprise Zone tax incentive for the $3 billion-a-year firm at its Sept. 8 meeting.

The council's agenda listed Resolution 2026-R-09-E for a first and only reading with emergency designation. The resolution would consent to an agreement between the Hamilton County Board of Commissioners and Baker Construction to locate the company in Sharonville's Enterprise Zone.

Baker Construction paid $2.1 million on Sept. 2 for a vacant three-story office building at 3 Crowne Point Drive, near the East Sharon Road and Interstate 75 interchange, Local 12 reported. The 81,084-square-foot building sits on 5.8 acres and was purchased out of receivership.

The company, led by CEO Karl Watson, plans to relocate from 900 North Garver Road in Monroe, about 20 miles north, Hoodline reported, citing the Cincinnati Business Courier. Engineering News-Record ranked Baker as the nation's No. 1 concrete contractor for the 17th consecutive year in October 2025.

The specific terms of the Enterprise Zone agreement have not been made public. Under Ohio's Enterprise Zone program, municipalities can exempt real property taxes by up to 75% for up to 10 years for non-retail businesses that create or retain jobs at a project site.

Council also considered Ordinance 2026-39-E, an emergency measure to submit a State Capital Improvement Program application to the Ohio Public Works Commission (OPWC) for the Creekview Culvert Repair Project. The ordinance would also designate a chief executive officer, chief financial officer and project manager for the application. The cost of the culvert project and the amount of state funding sought were not listed in the agenda.

Sharonville has been addressing culvert repairs across the city. On May 26, council approved a separate ordinance authorizing bids for culvert work under Beekley Woods.

President Pro Tem Glen Lovitt presided over the Sept. 8 meeting after Council President Paul Culter and Councilmember Blaise Cittadino were absent with notice. Mayor Kevin Hardman, Safety Service Director Jim Lukas and Law Director Charles Lippert also attended.

Other agenda items included Ordinance 2026-38, amending the 2026 salary ordinance, and Ordinance 2026-40-E, authorizing a special assessment on properties for weed removal costs.

Official minutes confirming vote outcomes have not been posted. The Community Services Committee meets Sept. 22 at 4 p.m. in the Administration Conference Room.
