Evendale Village Council will gather for a Council As a Whole session at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, August 4, at the Municipal Building, 10500 Reading Road, according to the village website. It will be the first full council meeting since members passed four emergency ordinances on Tuesday, July 14.

At the July 14 meeting, council approved the appointment of Joshua Asbach as Fire Chief in Training, effective Monday, August 3. Members also authorized a contract with KZF Design Inc. for a police station expansion and renovation project, according to a village Facebook video of the session. Council appropriated funds for AeroHub infrastructure and funded the village's 75th anniversary project at the same meeting. All four items were passed as emergency ordinances.

The police expansion and fire department work had been in the pipeline for months. Mayor Dick Finan flagged both in his June 2026 newsletter to residents, writing that "several larger projects are currently being contemplated; including, fire department renovations, a small expansion of the police department, phase 4 renovations of the recreation building."

Finan noted in that same letter that Evendale held a $43.6 million surplus fund as of December 2025, with $15 million restricted. That cushion allows the village to cover capital projects without levies or borrowing. Evendale operates without police or fire levies and does not charge residents for trash pickup, according to the June 2026 newsletter.

The July 7 Fire, Police, Zoning and CAC Committee meeting, attended by Mayor Finan and council members Chris Patterson, Beth McDaniel, Wanda Walker-Smith, Tom Sextro, and Steve Berke, had previewed the chief-in-training appropriation before it went to full council.
