GE Aerospace announced Tuesday, July 21, at the Farnborough International Airshow in England that Dublin-based AerCap Holdings has selected the GEnx-1B engine to power 15 additional Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners. The aircraft are scheduled for delivery through 2033, according to AerCap's official statement on X.
AerCap is the world's largest owner of Boeing 787 aircraft and already has roughly 200 GEnx engines owned or on order. The new selection extends a long-term service relationship with GE Aerospace, which is headquartered at 1 Neumann Way in Evendale.
"Our customers need aircraft and engine platforms that deliver reliable performance, compelling economics, and long-term value," AerCap CEO Aengus Kelly said in the announcement. "The GEnx engine has a proven track record in service."
Mohamed Ali, president and CEO of GE Aerospace Commercial Engines & Services, said the company takes "great pride" in AerCap's continued confidence in the engine and looks forward to supporting the lessor's long-term success.
Why it matters locally
GE Aerospace and Formica Corporation are the two employers that anchor Evendale's economy, a village of roughly 2,700 residents. GE Aerospace employs approximately 57,000 people globally and about 30,000 in the United States, according to the company's 2025 annual filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission. The company has not disclosed how many of those employees work at the Evendale campus.
The commercial engines and services division that builds and supports the GEnx program represented about 73% of GE Aerospace's total revenue in 2025, per the same filing. That division's health is closely watched in Evendale, where village finances depend heavily on income-tax receipts from major employers.
In March 2023, village finance committee members noted that monthly tax receipts had exceeded the prior year's February figure by nearly $80,000, a trend they attributed in part to GE Aerospace activity. No 2025 or 2026 village income-tax figures were available for this report.
The deal in context
The GEnx-1B has logged more than 50 million flight hours in just over 14 years with a 99.98% dispatch reliability rate, according to GE Aerospace's press release. Over the past decade, the company upgraded the engine's turbine blades and combustor coatings, more than doubling time on wing in harsh environments.
