Northbound commuters on I-71/75 will lose two lanes on the Brent Spence Bridge for nightly inspections starting Sept. 13 through Sept. 25.

The closures affect I-71/75 northbound between West Fifth Street in Covington and north of the bridge's main span in Ohio, WLWT reported Sept. 11. Drivers heading north into Ohio during late-night hours will funnel through fewer lanes, though access to Fifth Street in Covington and to both I-71 and I-75 northbound in Ohio will stay open.

The first week's schedule, according to the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC):

• Sunday, Sept. 13: Right double lane closure, 9:30 p.m. to 5 a.m.
• Monday, Sept. 14: Right double lane closure, 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
• Tuesday, Sept. 15, and Wednesday, Sept. 16: Left double lane closure, 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
• Thursday, Sept. 17: Left double lane closure, 10:30 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Crews will shift to the other side of the bridge for a second round of inspections Sept. 21 through Sept. 25. Specific times for that week have not been released.

The inspections are tied to the broader Brent Spence Bridge Corridor project, a multibillion-dollar effort that includes building a companion bridge alongside the existing span and refurbishing the current structure. The full project is expected to reach substantial completion in spring 2029, according to Local 12.

Corridor commuters should also note a separate closure on the horizon. The Ohio Department of Transportation plans to shut down I-75 in both directions from late Sept. 25 through early Sept. 28, to install nine steel girders for the new Linn Street bridge over I-75. That project costs $46.7 million.

For Princeton corridor residents who commute south into Kentucky or downtown Cincinnati, the nightly lane reductions mean slower northbound return trips through at least Sept. 25. The full I-75 weekend shutdown begins that same Friday night.
