At least nine fire departments from Hamilton and Butler counties responded to a blaze at the Twenty-Two Ultra Lounge in Springdale late Sunday, Oct. 4, less than 24 hours after a shooting at the same address.

The fire broke out around 11:30 p.m. at the lounge, located at 340 Glensprings Drive off Springfield Pike, WLWT first reported. No one was injured. The bar was closed and empty at the time.

Local 12 also confirmed the approximate time of the fire and reported no injuries.

Investigators are working to determine what started the blaze. Firefighters have not said how serious the damage is. Authorities have not disclosed whether arson is suspected, and they have not said whether the fire and the earlier shooting are being investigated as connected incidents.

Shooting hours earlier

The fire followed a shooting at the same lounge early Sunday morning. As we reported on Oct. 5, Springdale police were called to the lounge at 12:48 a.m. to assess a large gathering. Shots were fired around 1 a.m., and one person was taken to the hospital.

The severity of the shooting victim's injuries has not been disclosed. Springdale police said the shooter remains at large and has not been identified. The department said it expected to release more information about the shooting on Monday, Oct. 5. No update had been published as of Monday afternoon.

Permit history

The lounge's liquor permit came before Springdale City Council at its Feb. 18 meeting. The permit transfer request, filed by Annette Todd LLC, covered D1, D2 and D3 license classes. Those classes allow beer, wine and spirits sales on the premises until 1 a.m.

City Administrator Brian Uhl told council that Police Chief Tom Butler had met with the permit transferee and discussed security expectations for the establishment. Butler did not oppose the transfer.

Whether the lounge was actively operating at the time of the fire is unclear from available reports.

Anyone with information about either incident can contact the Springdale Police Department.
