If you've been relying on CodeRed to warn you about tornadoes, floods, or evacuations in Sharonville, those alerts are done. The city announced Monday, July 21, that it has retired CodeRed and switched to Alert Hamilton County, a countywide emergency notification system run by Hamilton County Emergency Management.
The catch: your old CodeRed registration does not carry over. Anyone who previously signed up for CodeRed must create a new account at smart911.com/AlertHC or risk missing critical warnings.
What Alert HC does
Alert HC sends free notifications by text, email, or phone call when emergencies threaten life, health, or safety in Hamilton County. Users can pick from more than 40 alert categories, according to the city's announcement. Options include tornado warnings, flash flood warnings, evacuation orders, shelter-in-place alerts, civil danger warnings, and municipal messages.
Phone calls are reserved for the highest-priority situations: tornado warnings, flash floods, evacuations, and civil emergencies.
How to register
Registration is free at smart911.com/AlertHC. The city asks residents to enter their home or work address so alerts are location-specific. Hamilton County Emergency Management notes that anyone uncomfortable sharing a home address can use the address of a nearby school, post office, or public building instead.
Once registered, the system prompts users every six months to update their contact information and profile.
The Sharonville Fire Department, led by Chief Dan Sunderman, oversees the city's emergency communications and recommends pairing Alert HC with Smart911, a companion system that shares household details, medical information, and emergency contacts with first responders. The two systems can be used together or independently.
Why it matters along the corridor
Alert HC is a countywide platform, meaning neighbors in Evendale, Woodlawn, and Springdale can register for the same system and receive alerts relevant to their own addresses. Hamilton County Emergency Management notes that anyone who previously provided information to a city notification system still needs to register separately in Alert HC.
The city did not specify when CodeRed alerts officially stopped, so residents who haven't re-registered may already be without coverage during summer storm season.
