A construction worker walked into an open traffic lane on Interstate 275 in Springdale and was fatally struck, the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office said.

Joshua Christopher Holland, 27, of Adams County, was working on I-275 near Ohio 747 just before 4 a.m. Friday, Sept. 18, when he entered the single open lane and was hit by a 2015 Ford Fusion, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer. The crash occurred near the 42.6-mile post, close to the I-75 interchange on the Princeton Pike corridor.

Holland was taken by ambulance to Bethesda North Hospital, where he died from his injuries.

Holland worked for Jurgensen Construction, the sheriff's office said, according to FOX19.

The Hamilton County Sheriff's Office Traffic Safety Unit took over the investigation from the Springdale Police Department, which initially responded to the scene. The sheriff's office said speed and impairment are not factors in the crash. No charges are pending.

As we reported Sept. 18, the crash shut down I-275 eastbound near the I-75 interchange while investigators worked the scene. The highway reopened later that day.

His wife, Shayla Holland, described him as a "wonderful man who was always willing to help those in need," according to FOX19.

The investigation remains open. No timeline for its completion has been announced. Anyone with information about the crash can contact the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office.
